Birmingham City manager Alex McLeish has been named the Manager of the Month for December.

The in-form Blues ended the month with four wins and two draws, extending their unbeaten run in the Premier League to 11 games and equalling a club record set over 100 years ago.

This is the first time that McLeish has won the Manager of the Month Award. He also becomes the first Birmingham manager to claim the accolade since the Premier League's inception in 1993.

McLeish's side began the month with a 3-2 victory away to Wigan Athletic before beating West Ham.

The Blues secured their fifth consecutive Premier League victory at home to Blackburn Rovers three days later.

Birmingham then gained a point away to Everton before drawing with leaders Chelsea. They finished the month with an away win at difficult to beat Stoke City.

The decision was made by the Barclays Awards Panel, which includes representatives from football's governing bodies, the media and fans.
