Former Chelsea boss Luiz Felipe Scolari has returned to Palmeiras for a second spell in charge.

Scolari has been linked with a number of roles since leaving Uzbek club Bunyodkor by mutual consent last month, but he has decided to return to Palmeiras.

The 61-year-old, who left the Brazilian giants in 2000 after three successful years, has signed a contract until December 2012.

Scolari is highly regarded at Palmeiras who he steered to runners-up spot in the league in his first season before guiding them to their first Copa Libertadores title in their 90-year history in 1999.

Palmeiras also won the Copa do Brasil and the Mercosur Cup during Scolari's time in charge while he was named South American coach of the year.

"It's a great joy to return to a club where I have roots and where I won not only titles, but the affection and respect of managers, officials and fans," Scolari told the club's official website.

"I have never concealed my admiration for Palmeiras and I'm thrilled to be back in this home.

"I always made it very clear that my priority was to return to Palmeiras and the fans can be assured that we will be happy again."
