Bayern Munich manager Louis van Gaal has revealed he has turned down the chance to manage Nigeria, but has not ruled out a return to international football in the future.

The former Ajax coach took charge of Holland for two seasons in 2000, but since leaving the Oranje in 2002 has taken charge of club sides Barcelona and AZ Alkmaar.

Van Gaal, who is under contract at the Allianz Arena until June 2011, has admitted that a return to international football is appealing, but the timing of Nigeria's enquiry does not fit in with his ambitions at Bayern.

"I have had an offer from Nigeria now, but I have rejected it." he told Liga total television.

"It was not the first time I have received an offer from Nigeria, but I think that Bayern is a big challenge for me."

Van Gaal also revealed that he would like another chance to lead a national side to the World Cup, after failing to qualify for the 2002 finals with Holland.

He added in Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung: "I think Bayern could be my final club. I would like to play a part in the World Cup, or similarly at a UEFA Euro tournament.

"I am looking forward to experiencing these tournaments."
