There was plenty again to talk about in the NFL with shocks and talking points coming from all around the league in week 11.

The defending champions lost again, in one of two games to go into overtime, while the Lions won with no time left on the clock and Jacksonville also clinched a late win against Buffalo.

The Colts edged a narrow win in Baltimore but the Saints were more impressive as they joined Indianapolis on 10-0 after a win in Tampa Bay.

Player of the Week

Matthew Stafford showed why there is hope in Detroit as even though the Lions will still struggle they do seem to finally have a franchise quarterback under centre judging by the performance of the overall number one draft pick on Sunday.

OK, so the Browns are hardly top-notch opposition, but Stafford still became the youngest QB to throw five TD passes in a single game in modern history, and completed it all with the game-winner despite carrying an injury.

Stafford fought back from a 21-point deficit but still found himself chasing the game late on, but with time expiring he dragged himself back on the field despite having a shoulder injury and fired a pass to Brandon Pettigrew to win it.

The rookie ended the day with 422 yards from 26 completions and five touchdowns for a rating of 112.7, and the poise he displayed showed signs of greatness to come.

Game of the Week

Two struggling teams, two wins between them so far, all the ingredients of one to miss eh? Not so, however, as it turned out to be one of the best games of the season in Detroit as the Lions stunned the Browns 38-37.

Cleveland scored four TDs after bagging just five in their last 15 games, while Brady Quinn threw all four after making just three in his entire career before Sunday, and yet it was still not enough to get them the win.

Matthew Stafford and his Lions fought back from a 24-3 deficit to lead entering the fourth quarter, but the Browns went ahead with 5.44 left to play. They could not run the clock down though and Stafford hit Brandon Pettigrew with no time left on the clock and the conversion sealed a breathless win for Cleveland.

Upset of the Week

The Raiders did beat the Bengals and that normally would be shock enough, but when the Chiefs came out on top in overtime against the reigning Super Bowl champions then that immediately moved to the top of the pile.

The Chiefs signalled what was to come when Jamaal Charles returned the opening kick-off 97 yards to instantly put them ahead as they looked for a first win in 10 home games, but the Steelers hit back with two TDs to go in front.

Charles again did the damage as his scored inside the final five minutes to force overtime, and after a superb 61-yard gain from Chris Chambers, up stepped 'Mr Irrelevant' Ryan Succop (the final player taken in April's draft) and he slotted the field goal to give the Chiefs a memorable win over the Super Bowl champs.

Play of the Week

After being quiet all season Terrell Owens finally gets his name into Plays of the Week after collecting a 98-yard bomb from Ryan Fitzpatrick against Jacksonville.

The Buffalo Bills have been quiet on offence all season and Fitzpatrick was taking the snap on his own two-yard line, not the best place to be in any circumstances and especially with Buffalo's lack of attacking threat.

However, T.O has always had big play ability and after hauling in Fitzpatrick's throw on half-way, he beat his marker's desperate dive and then jogged into the end zone for a welcome score, despite the Bills going on to lose a close one.

D of the Week

The New England Patriots ran over AFC East rivals New York Jets 31-14, but the defence had a big say in the outcome as Mark Sanchez saw four of his attempts picked off for interceptions.

Patriots cornerback Leigh Bodden grabbed three of those picks, and he ran the first one back 53 yards to score the opening touchdown of the game inside six minutes.

That gave the Pats the impetus and they soon ran away with the game, on the back of some much-improved defence after throwing away a big lead against the Colts last week.

Kick in the teeth

Matt Stover was cut by the Baltimore Ravens after 13 seasons with the team, but the veteran returned to literally put the boot into his old team as he slotted the game-winning field goal for the visiting Indianapolis Colts.

The 41-year-old has a perfect record since joining the Colts with now seven out of seven field goals and 15 from 15 extra points converted.

Meanwhile, the Ravens had to replace their replacement after some costly misses from Steve Hauschka, and Stover showed them what they have been missing as he nailed a 25-yarder in the fourth quarter which turned out to be the difference in a 17-15 win.

Jeremy Bowen says...

I thought Stafford was brilliant. Such poise and calmness from a rookie, not to mention his arm strength, if they can build a defence in Detroit to support him there could actually be some light at the end of the tunnel.
