Scolari: Wants to take Bunyodkor to the top
Luiz Felipe Scolari has revealed that the chance to turn Uzbekistan side Bunyodkor into one of Asian football's major powers was too good to turn down.
The former Chelsea boss surprised everybody when he decided to return to the game in a relatively low key manner following his sacking from the Blues in February.
The World Cup winning boss could have waited for a major job to become available in Europe such is his managerial pedigree but instead he opted for the challenge of transforming Bunyodkor into a major force in Asian football.
The club were only formed in 2005 but have won the Uzbekistan League Two title in 2006, League One crown in 2007 before completing the double last year.
"I want to aim for the progress of Uzbek football," he told The-AFC.com.
"I want Bunyodkor to win all the competitions they are going to play. This is a new situation for me but Uzbek football is developing fast.
"That is why I accepted Bunyodkor's proposal."
Scolari also indicated that the fact that Rivaldo, who he managed during the World Cup success of 2002, was playing for the club also persuaded him to take the job.
"I have very good relations with Rivaldo," he said. "When I received the offer I spoke to him and he told me the condition is really good."
