Barcelona's new sporting director has admitted that Rafael Marquez is poised to leave the club.

The Mexican stalwart has been linked with New York Red Bulls and Andoni Zubizarreta believes a move is imminent.

"It just needed the final details tying up," Zubizarreta, who was appointed to replace Txiki Begiristain, said at his presentation to the media.

If the deal with the Red Bulls goes through Marquez will join former Barca team-mate Thierry Henry, who linked up with the MLS club earlier this month.

He would become the Red Bulls' third 'designated player', whose wages are mostly outside of the salary cap, along with Henry and Colombian Juan Pablo Angel.

Marquez has been with Barca since 2003 when he arrived from Monaco.

He can play in midfield as well as defence and featured at the World Cup this summer as Mexico made it through to the last 16.
