Park: Won't play in Olympics
South Korea have confirmed that they will not look to call Manchester United's Park Ji-sung into their Olympic squad.
The midfielder was believed to be under consideration as one of the three over-23 players allowed in an Olympic squad.
Park has been struggling with a knee injury which forced him out of their recent World Cup qualifier in Turkmenistan.
Now Korea have taken the decision not to risk taking Park to China, because of his injury and the fact he has to battle for his place at Old Trafford.
"It is with regret that we have decided not to summon Park Ji-sung for the Olympics," said Korea's Olympic coach Park Sung-hwa.
"After talking with the KFAs (Korean Football Association) technical committee, we made the decision because his physical condition is not perfect and he faces fierce competition for places at Manchester United."
Sung-hwa admitted United were keen for their player not to be involved at the Olpymics.
"His club sent an official document stating that Park Ji-sung needed rest for a while due to the problem with his knee," Sung-hwa added.
The football tournament kicks off on 6th August, two days before the official start of the Olympics.
