Diego Forlan struck a hat-trick as Uruguay demolished 10-man Peru 6-0 to keep Oscar Tabarez's side on track for qualifying for the 2010 World Cup.

Carlos Bueno also fired a brace before substitute Sebastian Abreu wrapped up the rout to leave the Uruguayans fourth in the South American qualifying group on eight points, while Peru lie second from bottom with a return of just three points from six games.

Forlan got the ball rolling after he dispatched from Ignacio Gonzalez's excellent through ball before the Atletico Madrid forward netted from the penalty spot after Paolo Guerrero was adjudged to have pushed Diego Godin.

Guerrero was handed a second yellow card for the infringement, further compounding Peru's misery, before Forlan completed his trio of goals with a fine header.

Bueno then extended the hosts' lead via an impressive brace, and Abreu sealed the success in the final moments.

The result leaves Peru coach Jose del Solar under severe pressure, with reports claiming that he might now be set to lose his job.
