David Beckham has urged England to put an end to the 'excuses' after admitting he has felt 'physically sick' watching Euro 2008.

England's dismal qualifying campaign for this summer's tournament in Austria and Switzerland brought an end to former manager Steve McClaren's tenure in charge.

Italian coach Fabio Capello has since been appointed as England manager, with the Football Association promising a thorough investigation into the country's failings.

But LA Galaxy midfielder Beckham has called for an end to the hollow words that so often precede disappointment, and demanded England qualify with gusto for the 2010 World Cup before delivering in South Africa.

"It has been tough actually bringing myself to watch a game. I actually feel physically sick watching the games," the 32-year-old told Sky Sports News.

Devastating

"We should be there, but it is just one of those things. We move on, it is in the past. We move onto World Cup qualifiers now.

"We always sit in front of the press guys and say 'this could be it, we have a great team and great individuals and we have the belief'.

"But we always come up with excuses and that has got to stop. We need to go into a competition with the belief, and we need to win something.

"We have big games coming up and we have to prove to people that we belong on the big stage. For us, not qualifying for the Euros was devastating. We have to put that right by qualifying well."
