The Norwegian Football Association have confirmed that Stale Solbakken will take over from Egil Olsen as national coach.

However, Solbakken will not take charge until 2012 and he will remain with FC Copenhagen until then.

Olsen will remain in charge and if Norway qualify for Euro 2012 - then he has the option to remain in charge - if not then Solbakken will take charge on January 1st, 2012.

"This is an ideal solution for the Norwegian national side," Norwegian FA chief Sondre Kaafjord said.

"Egil had good results in his comeback as national coach and his well documented skills in taking Norway to championships need no further elaboration.

"Staale (has) had great success at FC Copenhagen and is the man of the future for Norwegian football."

"With an extra two years of experience as coach for what is now the best club in the Nordics, we are convinced that he is the right man to develop the national team.

Copenhagen confirmed that they were happy that Solbakken had been appointed and they would reveal his successor in 2011.
