Wales defender Chris Gunter has withdrawn from the squad ahead of Saturday's friendly with Scotland.

The Nottingham Forest full-back has played in Wales' last 14 internationals but will not be able to maintain his appearance record.

The 20-year-old has a viral infection and is expected to be sidelined for around a fortnight.

Premier League quartet Craig Bellamy, James Collins, Jack Collison and Simon Davies have already been forced to pull out, while Boaz Myhill, Neal Eardley and David Vaughan were not considered because of existing injuries.

And Gunter's absence means 17-year-old Cardiff defender Adam Matthews is more likely to make his international debut.

Manager John Toshack said: "The injury thing seems to follow us around. Recently, they've been genuine things; they've been bad luck - 99 per cent of them anyway.

"But we can't keep missing players through injury, because we can't get any continuity."
