Fi- again Wolves striker Chris Iwelumo is hoping to impress new Scotland boss Craig Levein and earn a return to international football.

The 31-year-old made his last appearance for Scotland in November 2008 under old boss George Burley.

But the striker has since struggled with injuries, suffering knee ligament damage against Birmingham in April, a broken metatarsal against Perth Glory during Wolves' pre-season trip to Australia and then aggravating the problem against Stoke in late October.

But the striker is now back to fitness and is looking to perform at club level to earn a recall to the Scotland squad.

Iwelumo says he would relish playing under Levein, believing he is just the strong character which Scotland needs to get back on track at an international level.

Temperament

The Wolves star said: "I think the temperament Craig Levein has got is fantastic for the squad.

"I think you always hear about the international scene and the problem with big egos with the international players.

"Craig is as down to earth as they come. He is definitely a character.

"He won't shrink away from any egos. If anything, he will dominate and get his point across no matter what has to be done.

"Hopefully I'll get the chance to work with him and show him what I am about on the international scene.

"But I know that will only happen if I do well for my club. I am just glad to be fit again."

Another chance

Iwelumo also hailed Levein's decision to give Scottish players who have been in international exile - such as Birmingham midfielder Barry Ferguson - another chance.

He added: "It is good for players to get another chance. That is fantastic. Barry Ferguson is a great player. It is a clean slate.

"Every manager has got to make their own decisions. Ferguson has been playing out of his skin for Birmingham."
