Giovanni Trapattoni has rubbished reports linking him with the vacant head coaching position of Turkey.

Speculation that the Republic of Ireland boss would be unveiled as the successor to Fatih Terim has been rife recently.

Ireland assistant Marco Tardelli had previously dismissed the rumours but now Trapattoni himself has spoken out and bluntly denied any possibility of him leaving the Republic.

"It's rubbish, there is nothing in it. It is just agents talking. I am totally committed to Ireland," the Italian said.

Since taking the helm in May 2008, Trapattoni orchestrated an encouraging World Cup qualification campaign that fell agonisingly short in a controversial play-off against France.

The 70-year-old signed a new two-year contract with the Football Association of Ireland in September.

Turkey are searching for a new coach after Terim resigned following an unsuccessful World Cup qualifying campaign.
