Ronaldinho's hopes of earning a place in Brazil's World Cup squad were dealt a major blow on Tuesday after he was overlooked for their final warm-up match against Republic of Ireland in London next month.

The forward, 29, had been confident of making his first appearance since April 2009 after a string of encouraging performances for AC Milan, but head coach Dunga decided there was no place for him in his 22-man selection.

Dunga said: "Every player has chances (of a place in the squad). At this moment he isn't part of it though."

Robinho, who returned to Santos on loan from Manchester City last month in order to improve his own chances of selection, has been included.

The game will take place at Arsenal's Emirates Stadium on 2nd March and will be Brazil's first of their 2010 campaign.

The 2002 World Cup winners, who are chasing a record sixth triumph, have been drawn in Group G in South Africa along with North Korea, Ivory Coast and Portugal.
