Steven Taylor has said it would be a dream come true to make his senior debut for England against Germany.

The defender has been called up by Steve McClaren following a string of fine performances for Newcastle, as well as a strong showing at the European Under 21 Championship in Holland.

He is not expected to start at Wembley on Wednesday but would relish the opportunity to come on and make an impression.

Taylor told Sky Sports News: "I'm going to take it one step at a time. To be named in the Under 21s is a massive thing for me but this has taken it to a whole new level.

"I only had a week off in the summer but the main thing was to get myself right for the start of the season.

"It would just be a dream come true (to play).

"It was amazing just to be named in the squad and to come on would just be the icing on the cake."
