Germany coach Joachim Low is in no rush to make a decision over who will captain his team in European Championship qualifying.
Bayern Munich full-back Philipp Lahm skippered his nation during the 2010 World Cup in the absence of the injured Michael Ballack.
Lahm has since outlined his desire to remain as captain but Bayer Leverkusen's Ballack is determined to lead his country once more having returned to fitness.
Despite representatives from both Bayern and Leverkusen backing their men, Low is adamant he has not given it much thought.
He told Kicker: "I haven't even started the discussion and I certainly won't allow any outside pressures to influence me.
"(But) I won't hesitate, I know what to do.
"Philipp and Michael have expressed their opinions, I accept their statements.
"I will talk to them in due course and then evaluate the situation."
Low, meanwhile, has ruled out axing 33-year-old Ballack from his plans despite his side benefiting from a youthful approach at South Africa.
"He has never slowed the game down. On the contrary he has always brought very good results," he said.
"Michael has played for some top clubs over the years, he has played regularly and physically has always made a good impression.
"I think he will now play a key role in Leverkusen."
