Germany became the first team to qualify for Euro 2012 after thrashing Austria, while Arda Turan scored a dramatic late winner as Turkey beat Kazakhstan to move into second in Group A after Belgium were held away from home by Azerbaijan.

Mesut Ozil helped himself to a hat-trick as Germany advanced to next summer's finals courtesy of a 6-2 hammering of Austria which maintained Joachim Low's side's 100 per cent record.

Real Madrid playmaker Ozil opened the scoring after just eight minutes before doubling the hosts' lead midway through the first half.

Lukas Podolski added a third goal before the half-hour, only for Austria to pull a goal back before the break through Werder Bremen striker Marko Arnautovic.

Ozil completed his hat-trick two minutes after the interval, although Austria reduced the arrears again when Martin Harnik netted on 51 minutes.

However, Germany put some gloss on the scoreline in the final 10 minutes as substitutes Andre Schurrle and Mario Gotze both found the target to make it eight wins out of eight.

Turkey appeared set for a disappointing draw at home to Kazakhstan until Turan curled home a free-kick five minutes into injury-time to secure a 2-1 success.

Guus Hiddink's side had earlier taken the lead when Seluck Inan's pass found Burak Yilmaz in space, and the Trabzonspor man netted his second international goal with a crisp finish from 12 yards.

But, in the 55th minute, Kazakhstan equalised out of the blue, when FC Shakhter Karagandy midfielder Ulan Konysbayev picked up possession 20 yards out and let fly, leaving the previously quiet Volkan Demirel helpless.

The Turks wasted a golden chance to regain the lead eight minutes later when Yilmaz blazed a penalty high and wide after Turan's ball in reared up and hit the hand of Mukhtar Mukhtarov.

Home tempers began to rise and Turkey ended the night a man down after Inan was dismissed for a foul on Heinrich Schmidtgal, but spirits were soon lifted when Turan bent in a free-kick from the left wing that evaded everyone and went in.

Belgium's hopes of claiming second spot in the group were dented after they let the lead slip in a 1-1 draw away to Azerbaijan.

The visitors dominated the game and made the breakthrough in the 55th minute when Rashad Farhad Sadygov brought down Eden Hazard in the area and Timmy Simons converted the resulting penalty.

But Belgium were then made to pay for missing a glut of chances five minutes from time when Mahir Shukurov set up Aliyev to head home an unlikely equaliser from close range.
