France coach Laurent Blanc believes Samir Nasri is yet to fulfil his potential and could reach 'a new level' at Manchester City.
Blanc stated after Les Bleus' 1-1 friendly draw with Chile in Montpellier last month that the former Marseille man "has the ability to do better", and that the uncertainty over his future was affecting his game.
Nasri, who joined City from Arsenal earlier this summer to end the transfer speculation surrounding his future, responded to the criticism, saying he would prefer the coach to speak directly to him rather than talking to the media.
But that did not stop Blanc reiterating the sentiment following another average display from the 24-year-old in Friday's 2-1 Euro 2012 qualifying win over Albania.
Blanc told French TV show Telefoot: "Samir could do much more. He has talent, and we know he is a player of very great quality.
"At Manchester City, he could reach a new level. I hope for both him and us.
"Moreover, he is an intelligent boy. With all those qualities, he should understand when we said those things, it means that we hold him in high esteem."
Blanc believes where Nasri plays on the pitch could determine his success in the future, with the France coach keen to employ him as a winger rather than in a playmaker role.
"I am enquiring to see where Nasri will play at Manchester City," he added. "I would not be surprised to see him on one side.
"We have to ask the right questions. Samir has amazing qualities, and all those questions around him are maybe due to his position on the pitch considering his qualities."
