Martin Jol has been sacked as Tottenham Hotspur manager - but who do you think should replace him?

The Dutchman was asked to resign prior to the Uefa Cup defeat to Getafe. Do you believe it's the right move for the club or do you think he should have been given more time to turn things around?

Sevilla boss Juande Ramos is tipped to be appointed as the next manager. Would he be a good choice?

Would you like to see a British manager given a chance to change Spurs' fortunes?

What about Leeds United assistant Gus Poyet? Should the club bring back a fans' favourite to help out?

Martin Jol as the best manager Spurs have had for 20 years, and a thoroughly decent bloke, we feel like we have lost a friend. Daniel Levy should be ashamed. Why did they have to sack Chris Hughton after 30 years with the club its despicable.

Jol had to go, but not because of what he did, because he was so underminded by the management at Spurs by meeting Ramos in August, that he has no choice. Jol's future at Spures was clear from the time Levi met Ramos, it was only time. How can a manager perform under these circumstances and how can a team play well noing that. The Spurs board has shown themselve to be inept, disloyal and wholey without business ethics. I sincerely wish Jol the best, he will do well at another premier league club, the loyal at WHL will remember you. But how many loyal fans will be there in a few years? Spurs are also runs every year. I have supported Spurs for 48 years. My loyalty ended last week. I'll always have a soft spot, but I see this a club that is truely taking the micky out of its fans. I can remember many of the great teams we had, but most supporter can't so where is the future base coming from? I'm sure Ramos will do OK, but with the same board there he to will leave eventually. Levi get out of White Hart Lane and take you bunch of tossers with you.

Like most of Spurs fans, I was apalled at the conduct of the Board and the dismissal of Martin Jol. Furthermore, I am extremely digusted to learn that the gross interference by the Board in football matters which I believed lead to the turmoil amongst the players. Levy and his sidekicks seem to think they know football better than MJ. In fact, what they don't realise is that his failure is actually their failure. So, what is loyal Spurs supporters going to do about it ? I, for one have decided (regretably) to ditch my season ticket and not support the team until Levy and his useless bandits leave the club. They are the real problem. They are only interested in making a quick buck at the expense of the club's future. We will never be a good as Arsenal until we get real professionals and not speculators to manage the club. It does not matter who the Coach is at Spurs, success will not be forthcoming until this shower of shite who claim to be the Board are flushed down the proverbial sewer.

I cannot believe the comments from some of the Spurs Supporters. For one, how can you fell sorry for Martin Jol who will receive about £4m. We have been to long in Arsenals Shadow. I haven been supporting the Spurs since 1959, and can still remember when they were in our shadow, we need a Manager who can bring back some sort of pride. I think Ramos will do that if he is left to manage. Jol in my mind was a fill in, Ramos is more long term, someone who can rival Wenger.

Hi there, I lived in London for many yeas and now I am back in Spain but try to see as many matches as I can from the premier, with reference to Juan de Ramos I dont belive that he will solve Spurs problems, as it's Seville squad that has given him the position that he has now, wonder whether he will be able to do something with present Spurs players or will no want many new faces in the team.

Robin Richman says...

I have supported Spurs since my Dad first took me at the age of 6, some 46 years ago. In this lifetrime I have seem some brilliant football and some mediocre stuff too, but other than the stupidity of appointing ex Arsenal men as Manager I had never before thought the club were being run by people who were not, deep down, fans of the club, even the misguided Mr Sugar. The current set up undemines the Manager, Levy looks purely at the numbers and Comoli? well who is he ? what great players has he unearthed? Martin Jol got the job by default, but he brought us back some real pride, the best since Keith Burkinshaw. In his first season we lost to a late goal at Fulham, as he walked off you could see the hurt, I would not have liked to have been in that dressing room that is for sure. Without doubt we need a real leader on the pitch, but the likes of Dave Mackay do not come around often, we need a defensive tackler in midfield and a decent attacking leftsided midfielder. We don't need Bent, we have three great strikers and Barnard needs to be given a chance as the back up. We don't need Zakora, who thinks he is a better player than he is. BUT all of these things we could have coped with if the Manger was going to be here to build a fortress for the next ten years. Spurs fans are used to getting beaten, what we don't like is playing poor, non attacking football and players who are not proud of our traditions, thes feeling were never there over the last two years, but straight after the initial rumours, Jol was undermined and the team stopped performing for him. That is directly the responsibility of Mr Levy, who has an appropriate name for a Spurs man but not the heart and soul. In the future I hope Martin Jol gets the job he deserves and that he comes back to shove it right down the Board's throats, I know he will always be welcomed back by the fans. This is Mandric type loyalty !

I am absolutely disgusted at the treatment that Martin Jol has got from the Spurs board, do they have short term memories. If a manager gets you 5th two years running and then gets ousted when we are barely a third of the way into the season after a few poor results, then something is wrong there. In all honesty I hope Spurs go the same way as Leeds, after how they treated Jol. Who will probably go to Ajax and be fantastic.

As a spurs fan, I feel deeply embarrassed by the way MJ & CH have been treated by the Club. Levy clearly wanted rid of after 2 games - I can't explain why - theres no smoke without fire. Now Levy's got his wish. The worst memory for me is seeing Levy & Kemslsy smirking when we're 2-1 down to Getafe - almost like someone's been caught in the headlights. I, personally, as a lifelong spurs fan, have never felt so ashamed of the Board, their conduct & the way Martin has been treated. It is abomniable. As long as Levy is in charge, I will not see another game. I feel it's disgusting the way Levy treated Martin & the fans as well - An increases of over 35% of the cost of a membership last year - there's only 1 way Levy wants this Club - 1 that can gain him a huge investment on his outlay, hence why he disposed of BMJ & has felt he can get someone to increase the value of Spurs. It counts so much more when even teams like Arsenal & Arsene Wenger come out & say how bad the sackings are. I'd personally like to thank BMJ & CH for all their effort, work & commitment over past few years. They are a credit to themselves & the Club - they certainly haven't discredited themselves - if anything the Club & Levy have discredited themselves & de-stablised the Club after 2 games when they actively seeked to find an alternate manager. I hope BMJ & CH find another English club to take over where they can fulfill their potential instead of being restricted by that c**t Commoli. Best of luck & best wishes for your futures guys, from Serious Yido's, who love you from the bottom of their hearts, from hetrosexual males!!!! You are both hugely popular Yidos & I wish you both well for your futures.

Tony Edgar says...

I have been a Spurs fan and regular White Hart Lane visitor since 1958 and for my sins I am also a shareholder which allows me the opportunity to confirm my disgust at the behaviour of Mr. Levy and the Board of Directors with respect to their disgraceful treatment of Martin Jol since the beginning of this season when they were caught redhanded going behind his back when approaching Ramos to replace him. Despite the fact that this was obviously true the powers that be have compounded their betrayal of Martin Jol by denying that it ever happened - thus making making them "economical with the truth" to say the least, it is obvious to all concerned with football at any level that Jol's position from then on was untenable and so it has proved. I fail to see how Mr.Levy can now claim to be "acting in the best interests of the club" when his early and subsequent actions have proved to be public relations disasters and condemned the club to unwarranted ridicule. I only wish Mr.Levy and his henchman had half as much dignity as Martin Jol and wish the big man good luck for the future. It should be an interesting AGM at the end of the season, assuming of course that the meeting will be "open to the floor" !!

Of course Ramos is the ideal choice to get things back on track at Spurs - Martin Jol was very unlucky - it reminded me of when the then Spurs board did the same to Keith Burkinshaw.

Martin Jol was the best manager we've had in years. He has done so well to tolerate the disgraceful way he was treated by the board after two seasons of significant improvement. Well done once again to the board - back to square one. That's right, get Ramos in, we'll get a few second rate Spanish players in, go back to mid-table and sack him in 2-3 years time. I'm sure I speak for all Tottenham fans here - thanks for all the work Martin, you will always be welcome at the Lane.

I am hurting, I had and still have so much respect for Martin Jol. As many people have stated we have finished in fifth spot two seasons on the trot. With reference to one of the comments left, Spurs were not lucky to finish fifth last season. I suppose we were also lucky to get to the quater finals of both the UEFA and FA cups and the semi finals of the League cup...I think not. Martin Jol has brought so much to the club, we have been playing some breath taking football and Martin has never winged and moaned about the poor referee decisions thats gone against the Spurs. I hope Martin Jol finds a great club to manage, because he deserves it. I just feel ashamed at the way he has been treated by the club. It will take a long time to get over his departure. Good luck!

I'm shocked and disamyed at the way MJ and CH have been treated. Having been a Spurs fan for nearly 40 years and a season ticket holder for a few years before i moved to the US. I feel we were making progress, this season has been a struggle when Dawson and King were both out injured we should have moved and got a leader to take over the defense. I love Bale and think he has a great future, but why waste money on Bent, we have strikers and it just adds the the problem with the other strikers. I would love to see them gamble on Jurgen and not Ramos. As he is a Spurs legend. In the meantime get behind Clive Allen in the game against Blackburn. Come on you Spurs.

Christopher Hicks (Tottenham Hotspur fan) says...

I've read all the comments and it seems that people seem to be blaming Jol for signings, don't forget that a certain Mr Comolli was largely responsible! Jol is a legend as far as I'm concerned. He has taken a ok football club and made a great one (and made the board a fortune in the process). First 2 seasons in charge and has come 5th both times, why don't you ask Aston Villa if they would be happy with those finishes?? Tottenham haven't performed the way we hoped this year but that again can be traced but to the board undermining Jol on a toys everywhere Bulgarian. The board should be ashamed of themselves on how they've treated a great man, it's a disgrace! Levy and Comolli should get out, you are the one's that should be handing in your notice. Martin Jol, I wish you all the best. I'm glad Spurs have paid you a suitable amount of money. I feel ashamed to be a Tottenham fan today. I just hope that those disgraces in the board room give the next manager some time to build a team. I was looking forward the first time in many years to a team and a manager that could fight for europe year in and year out. Remind me what happened to Leeds when O'Leary left?? 2 years forward, 5 years back!! Stand up for Martin Jol! (All the best)

Isaiah Rankins (Tottenham Hotspur fan) says...

It is inevitable that Mr Jol will go onto another club and excel to become one of the worlds top managers. It is, however, a shame that he couldn't emulate this at Tottenham. I disagree that this was purely down to tactics and side on those who question some of the defensive personel. Tottenham are a great side - with an absolutely laughable defence bar Mr. L King. Only so much you can do with scraps. Farewell Mr. Jol, you brought smiles to our faces and pride to our hearts, alas I fear it will be a while before those return.

Simon Isaacs (Tottenham Hotspur fan) says...

Sorry to hear Martin and Chris H go? Not at all. Houghton should have gone years ago - our defence has the worst goals against column outside the bottom three year on year. No leader in the team - the players should hang their heads in shame. Not one of them is worth the shirt, not even Berbatov who has less maturity than a six year old. Martin worked wonders at the club but if you're an honest fan, you've got to admit that selling Carrick has cost the club dear - we were lucky last season to get 5th and Europe again - Huddlestone doesn't do it and neither will Zakora. If the board wanted rid of Jol, why not do it in May? Why not say thanks for getting us 5th again but we need fresh ideas and it's time to move on? No, waste another £40m and screw it up a week into the season. Do the board not watch the same matches as the fans? We are dying for a left footed, left midfielder, not a central midfielder stuck out on the wing. Whoever believes that we need a Director of Football to spend £16.5 million on a bench warmer needs their head examined. I feel for Bent but the money should have gone on Petrov or Pederson - invested where we need it. The defence is a shambles so I'm glad to see the back of Hans Segars too. SO much wrong at Spurs that it hurts but we can only hope and pray that whoever comes in has some say in the players we sign and is given time to turn things around. COYS

Danny Ashley (Tottenham Hotspur fan) says...

There is no dout Martin Jol has taken us farther forward than any other recent Managers and is only behind Bill Nic and KB as the best in my lifetime( Spurs fan for 40 years). His position was untenable from the moment our illustrious Board spoke with the Ramos camp however and in hindsight it may have been better had he left then. What we must ensure now, is that wheover takes over is fully in charge of the footballing side of the club and is solely responsible for the recruitment of players ( no interference please Mr Comolli). Too many purchases it seems were not the choice of MJ and were buys "for the future," whereas it is screamingly obvious we need to buy a central and left sided midfielder ready for the Prem now who have the creativity that the likes of Jenas, Zokora etc lack.Come on Spurs, lets get it right for once please?!

Gary Witherspoon (Liverpool fan) says...

I hope that the Spurs board have done the right thing in ousting Jol, like Liverpool they have entrusted a huge transfer budget to get the 'right players ' but the manager needs time to get them ALL playing the way he wants i just feel that once again it is a knee jerk reaction. As a fan of Course we want the results and tropheys. but judge at the end of the season not just a 1/3rd into it... You only have to Look at ferguson / wenger to see what can be achieved over time which keeps being said but know one at board level seems to listen. I just hope the liverpool Board don't go down the same route with Benitez as the spurs board with jol i think they will / would have a huge impact on their respective teams fortunes.
