Steyn: five wickets
South Africa enjoyed a superb second day at the Wanderers to take complete control of the first Test against New Zealand.
Dale Steyn claimed 5-34 as the Black Caps subsided to 118 all out - a first-innings deficit of 108.
An unbroken third-wicket stand of 159 between Hashim Amla and Jacques Kallis then guided South Africa to 179-2 by the close, an overall lead of 287.
Resuming on the second morning at 41-2, New Zealand lost their last eight wickets in the space of 28.3 overs.
Steyn bowled a fine spell to finish with 5-34, while fellow seamers Makhaya Ntini (3-46) and Kallis (2-11) were also in impressive form.
Only Stephen Fleming - back in ranks under Daniel Vettori's leadership after 10 years as captain - produced much resistance with 40.
South Africa found themselves in early trouble in their second innings at 20-2 with both openers - Graeme Smith and Herschelle Gibbs - back in the pavilion.
But Amla and Kallis produced the first century partnership of the match, adding 159 together in increasingly untroubled fashion.
Amla - who was dropped by Brendon McCullum on two - struck 13 boundaries to finish the day in sight of a second Test century at 85 not out, while Kallis played a more aggressive hand with 76 not out from 122 balls.
