Goode: ran the show
Leicester Tigers revived their Heineken Cup campaign with a clinical 39-0 victory against Edinburgh at Welford Road.
The Tigers were beaten 22-9 at Leinster in their opening pool fixture last weekend, but responded in style to give new coach Marcelo Loffreda a comfortable win on the occasion of his first home game.
Three converted tries and two Andy Goode penalties in the first-half allowed the hosts to build a 27-0 lead.
Fly-half Goode, who claimed a 19-point haul, was first across the whitewash in the fourth minute after charging down David Blair's attempted clearance.
The conversion and an eighth-minute penalty extended the advantage to 10-0, in the process taking Goode past Tim Stimpson's Leicester record of 358 points in the competition.
The second try came after quarter-of-an-hour when winger Tom Varndell touched down in the right-hand corner following Goode's pass. The extras were added to leave Edinburgh with a mountain to climb at 17-0 adrift.
Goode landed a second penalty on 39 minutes and there was still time for full-back Geordan Murphy to score Leicester's third try in first-half stoppage time - his 19th in the Heineken Cup to equal Leon Lloyd's club record.
The bonus point was secured six minutes after the restart when a penalty try was awarded by referee Romain Poite. Goode's conversion made it 34-0.
Edinburgh's miserable day continued when lock Craig Hamilton was shown the yellow card on 50 minutes for pulling down a lineout, and Allan Jacobsen joined him in the sin-bin three minutes later.
The visitors came through the numerical disadvantage without conceding any points, but Martin Corry - making his 250th appearance for the club - did complete the scoring with Leicester's fifth try in injury time.
