Sheridan: Staying with Sale
Andrew Sheridan has ended speculation about his future at Sale by signing a new three-year contract with the club.
The England prop, who played a key role in helping his country reach the World Cup final, was in the final year of his current deal with the Sharks.
Several other clubs were believed to be interested in the Bromley-born front-rower who was signed from Bristol in 2003.
However, Sheridan - who will now remain at Edgeley Park until the end of 2011 with an option for a further year after that, insists he always wanted to stay with Sale.
"I am very happy at the club and living in the north west," he said.
"We have a great bunch of players at the club and I have a lot of respect for Philippe Saint-Andre and Kingsley Jones.
"It was flattering to know that other clubs wanted to talk to me but I didn't want to move anywhere else."
Director of rugby Saint-Andre is delighted that Sale have managed to retain Sheridan's services.
The 28-year-old is widely regarded as one of the best props in the world and was named in the team of the tournament after the World Cup in France.
"It's great for the club that Andrew has committed his future to Sale Sharks," the Frenchman said.
"We are keen to develop our own youngsters at the club but we are also determined to keep hold of our world class players like Andrew."
