Kallis: recall
South Africa captain Graeme Smith has confirmed at a press conference that Jacques Kallis will play in Friday's Twenty20 international against New Zealand.
The recall comes less than three months after the all-rounder was controversially left out of the Proteas' squad when they hosted the inaugural World Twenty20.
"Jacques Kallis will play tomorrow (Friday)," Smith said, before adding that Shaun Pollock will also play in the match - the latter missing out on both of South Africa's recent Test match victories against the Black Caps.
Kallis made a century in the second Test but, despite the emphatic manner in which both wins were taken, Smith used the media gathering to warn his side not to underestimate their opponents' abilities in both the Twenty20 match and the upcoming series of one-dayers.
"New Zealand as a one-day team and a Twenty20 team are very respectable," he said.
"They've churned out some really top performances in the past, so we do know what they're capable of. We've got to get back down to earth now, and put in the work.
"We've played enough against New Zealand to know that they're a very competent team. They will have licked their wounds after the Test series and they'll want to come back at us.
"They're a lot better one-day team than they are a Test team, and they've always played well against us.
"I expect them to be very competitive in this series."
Smith also hailed the form of Dale Steyn, who took ten-wicket hauls for South Africa in both the recent Tests.
"His confidence is very high at the moment. He will more than likely get a run-in tomorrow night in the Twenty20, and hopefully he will be as explosive as he was in the Test series," Smith added.
"As he's matured in the Tests, he's going to have to mature in the one-day format too. If he can strike for us, he's going to go a long way to claiming his spot."
