Brooking: No row
The Football Association have dismissed any suggestion of a rift between England powerbrokers Brian Barwick and Sir Trevor Brooking.
FA chief executive Barwick and director of football development Brooking have been given the job between them to find Steve McClaren's successor as England coach.
Over the past few weeks, both men have met with a number of senior figures within the game to pick their brains on who would be the right man to lead England.
Reports on Friday claimed the pair were at loggerheads because of a difference of opinion between the pair with Barwick said to want a 'world-class' continental manager, while Brooking is adamant he wants an Englishman in charge.
And the FA are livid at the suggestion Barwick and Brooking are now at odds with each other.
"There is no truth in any suggestion of a problem between Brian Barwick and Sir Trevor Brooking, or a conflict or difference of opinion of any sort in appointing the next England manager," said FA director of communications Adrian Bevington.
"It is totally without foundation. It is misleading to the public and grossly unfair on Brian and Sir Trevor, who are going about their work in a completely professional manner.
"This is not helpful at a time when we are doing all we can to ensure we get the right man and the best man for the England job, which is what the fans all want."
"There is absolutely no truth in this story whatsoever," said Brooking
"There is no disagreement between Brian and I on who the next England manager should be. In fact, we are agreed on the way forward. We are both totally committed to working together to find the right man for the job.
"In addition, I have not expressed a preference for any potential candidate, either publicly or privately.
"Specifically, it is completely untrue that I have been backing Alan Curbishley for the job. I have never been asked about Alan, either by the Daily Mail or any other newspaper.
"It is even more disappointing as yesterday evening I was at a social event with the two reporters who wrote today's story, and neither spoke to me to respond to it. If they had done so, I could have told them that it was completely inaccurate.
"Brian and I are extremely annoyed at what appears to be an effort to destablise our work together to find the next England manager, but we will continue to move forward together in the same positive manner."
