Tindall: in hospital
England centre Mike Tindall looks set to miss the rest of the RBS Six Nations Championship.
The Gloucester back is under observation in Hammersmith Hospital after suffering bruising to his liver in Saturday's opening day defeat to Wales.
The Rugby Football Union say at this stage he is unlikely to play any further part in the tournament.
Tindall, capped 54 times, missed the World Cup last autumn when he failed to recover in time from a broken leg sustained on club duty five months earlier.
England head coach Brian Ashton now looks likely to recall Newcastle's Mathew Tait or his Falcons midfield colleague Jamie Noon when England face Italy in Rome next week.
A further update on Tindall's condition will be given on Monday.
Fellow injury victims David Strettle (foot), Tom Rees (knee) and Lewis Moody (Achilles) have all been ruled out of next Sunday's clash.
Tindall, Strettle, Moody and Rees all went off during the 26-19 defeat.
Harlequins wing Strettle has suffered an injury to the same part of his foot that forced him out of World Cup contention.
Strettle broke the fifth metatarsal in his left foot during pre-World Cup training at the University of Bath last summer.
And while no fracture has so far been diagnosed this time, he could also struggle to make England's remaining Six Nations fixtures after Italy - France away, Scotland away, Ireland home.
Wasps flanker Rees, who went on for Moody yesterday but did not reappear in the second period, has suffered a medial collateral ligament problem to his left knee
Strettle, Rees and Moody have returned to their clubs, with all three facing further specialist reviews.
No call-ups to the England squad have yet been made by Ashton.
