Eriksson: Poor finish to season

Sven Goran Eriksson admits Manchester City have had a poor second half to the season.

But the Swede insists that he and club owner Thaksin Shinawatra are still on good terms after speculation over his future.

Eriksson feels that City's great start to the season raised the expectation levels of everyone around the club.

"When we started that well the dream of playing in Europe was planted in the heads of he players and myself, so we are still fighting for that and hope we can do it," Eriksson told Sky Sports News.

"I know Dr Thaksin said top 10 is the goal and I know we can do it and am confident we will do it."

No meeting

Eriksson stated that he and Shinawatra had not had the chance to meet in recent weeks.

"He has been busy, in Thailand I think, sorting out private business and I haven't spoken to him for some weeks. It [the relationship] has always been good, but he hasn't been here for a month," he said.

"We talk about football and we have a young team, new team and I agree the second half has not been as good as the first half.

"We should have done better but maybe we did too well in beginning, so maybe we are in the middle of that.

"If you look at teams around us I think we are in a good position."

Eriksson is confident City will move forward next season.

"Of course, if we are going to progress and invest more money and take in a couple of even better players, then it should be fantastic and I think everyone is looking forward to that," he said.
