Richard Agar has been confirmed as the new coach of Hull FC and has signed a two-and-a-half year contract.

The 36-year-old Agar played for Featherstone, Dewsbury and Widnes and spent four years as assistant coach to John Kear and Peter Sharp at Hull.

Sharp left the club last week with the Black and Whites languishing in 11th place in Super League and Agar took charge initially on a temporary basis for Sunday's 16-8 defeat by St Helens.

Hull chief executive James Rule told the club's website: "I believe Richard is a fantastic appointment for the club. He is highly respected by the players, staff and within the wider game of rugby league.

"We take pride in developing young players and bringing them through our system into the Super League squad. Richard has also come through our system and that pathway has allowed Richard to develop very close working relationships with the players.

Culture

"He also embraces and understands the culture of the club and what we are trying to achieve.

"Richard's appointment will also have huge benefits in terms of the recruitment and development of our youth system.

"Richard has been involved with the national set up and that experience combined with his networking will be invaluable in presenting the vision of Hull FC to young players and ensuring the conveyor belt of talent keeps flowing through to our Super League team.

"His ambition and drive will be an integral part of the future development of Hull FC."

Honoured

Agar added: "I am proud and honoured to have been appointed Head Coach of this famous club. I am aware of the history and heritage of Hull FC and feel privileged to be part of it.

"At the same time I am also excited by the challenge and opportunity that this position brings."
