Flying: Bolt goes through the line
Bolt: Sprint double champion
"I feel good. I have just proved to the world I am a true champion and with hard work anything is possible."
Usain Bolt.
Quotes of the week
Usain Bolt completed his historic sprint double with a fantastic runaway success in the 200m final, as he set another world record of 19.30.
The Jamaican flew out of the blocks and was streets ahead turning into the home straight - but unlike the 100m he continued powering all the way to the line as he gunned down Michael Johnson's world record of 19.32.
Bolt did just that as he clipped two one hundredths of a second off that superb record time and set a new world mark of 19.30.
Bolt becomes the first sprinter since Carl Lewis in 1984 to win the sprint double, and just the ninth athlete ever to achieve that feat.
Churandy Martina of Netherlands Antilles came in second, and Shawn Crawford of America claimed bronze despite coming fourth, as compatriot Wallace Spearmon was almost immediately disqualified for running out of his lane.
But more than two hours after the race, Martina was also disqualified for running out of his lane. Defending champion Crawford was therefore promoted to take the silver medal and his compatriot Walter Dix was given the bronze.
Bolt, who celebrates his 22nd birthday on Thursday, exploded round the bend and the race never looked in doubt, only the margin of victory.
Although he beat his own world record in the 100m when easing down, this time Bolt was focused on running the full distance and as he pushed himself all the way, he broke Johnson's 12-year record.
"I feel good. I have just proved to the world I am a true champion and with hard work anything is possible," said Bolt.
"This is more than I can handle really, I'm a bit overwhelmed. I didn't think a 200m record was on because I felt tired after the heats.
"I never expected this. I knew the track was a fast track but I didn't think this was possible.
"I'm shocked, I'm still shocked. I have been aspiring to the world record for so long.
"But I told everyone I was going to come out here and leave everything on the track and I did just that."
Welshman Christian Malcolm came in sixth in a time of 20.40, just ahead of veteran St Kitts and Nevis runner Kim Collins.
"He (Bolt) is not human," said the 32-year-old Collins. "Eventually he'll come back down to earth. It's ridiculous. That guy is the business.
"You have to understand that when you are at the back and giving it everything and he's just doing it, it's brutal, it's just brutal."
