The US Open women's final between Serena Williams and Jelena Jankovic will now take place on Sunday after adverse weather delayed play at Flushing Meadows on Saturday.

Heavy rain and wind from Tropical Storm Hanna forced the suspension of Andy Murray's semi-final with Rafael Nadal with the Briton two sets to the good.

That match will now resume on Sunday afternoon and organisers have subsequently taken the step of shifting the women's final.

Williams and Jankovic are now expected on court at 9pm (0100 GMT) with the men's final rescheduled from Sunday afternoon to Monday evening (2100 GMT) - you can watch both matches live on Sky Sports 1.

Williams is playing in her first US Open final for some six years having won the title for the second time on her last appearance back in 2002.

The American, roared on by the partisan home crowds in New York, has looked in excellent form and was hugely impressive as she tamed both windy conditions and her opponent to storm past Dinara Safina in the semi-finals 6-3 6-2.

Afterwards, Williams insisted she would be ready for a delayed final, stating: "I don't know if we'll play tomorrow (Saturday), but I'm ready to play tomorrow. Hopefully we can. If not, I'll be ready for Sunday, Monday, Tuesday... doesn't matter."

For her part, Jankovic will be making her first appearance in a Grand Slam final on Sunday having ousted in-form Olympic gold medallist Elena Dementieva in the semis.

The final will be the seventh meeting between Williams and Jankovic, with the two players tied at three wins apiece.

The American won the only match-up in a final, taking the title at Miami in three sets in April.
