Gareth Bale insists his Tottenham Hotspur team-mates are fully committed to turning around their poor start to the season.

Spurs are surprisingly languishing at the bottom of the Premier League table, despite manager Juande Ramos bolstering his squad in the transfer window with a number of high-profile signings.

The London club have failed to win any of their five league games this term, and Wales international Bale is aware the side must improve quickly.

He said in the Daily Mirror: "We have to work on the weaker points of our game and have to get stronger. We've played three games in six days and a lot of the lads were quite tired - that's why we are using the squad to get fresh legs out there.

"I can understand the supporters' frustration because we have not won. We are just trying to work hard on our bad points.

"New players have come in and we have to gel quickly and start grinding out some results. The team needs to stick together, play football and we'll come out of this all right.

"The manager is not angry with us - he is finding out about our weak points and we need to improve. We are not producing the goals we need."

Spurs begin the defence of their Carling Cup crown on Wednesday against Newcastle United, live on Sky Sports 2, and Bale admits the fixture promises to be an intriguing encounter, with both teams struggling for different reasons.

He added: "I wouldn't say we were both struggling, but we're not in the best of form at the moment. Newcastle are like us - they are looking to change their luck."
