Quotes of the week
Hampshire have confirmed they are aiming to bring in former England coach Duncan Fletcher as a consultant after appointing Giles White as team manager for next season.
White replaced Paul Terry during the season and guided them to third place in the County Championship after previously being in charge of the seconds.
The 36-year-old former Somerset and Hampshire batsman will now be the new permanent manager for the 2009 season - when he could be working alongside Fletcher.
The 60-year-old Zimbabwean famously overhauled England's fortunes, culminating in their 2005 Ashes success, and Hampshire have confirmed they want Fletcher to join the club.
Hampshire want Fletcher, who led Glamorgan to the 1997 County Championship title, to review the entire structure of coaching at the Rose Bowl alongside White and academy director Tony Middleton.
"Giles did a superb job as caretaker manager during the last couple of months of the season and the team has responded positively to his style and commitment," Hampshire chairman Rod Bransgrove told the club's website.
"He has therefore earned the right take the position on a full-time basis and I am sure that all Hampshire supporters will wish him every success."
Bransgrove also confirmed that the club are already in talks with Fletcher over bringing him back to English county cricket.
"I can confirm, also, that we are in discussion with Duncan Fletcher regarding a consultancy and advisory role with Hampshire," Bransgrove added.
"The purpose of this role is to review the structure of our cricket department and to conduct an audit of our coaching methods and procedures throughout the entire player development process.
"In Giles White and Tony Middleton we have two excellent young coaches and managers of great potential and both are looking forward to the possibility of working with Duncan next season with a view to optimising our cricket management and development capabilities."
