Controversial cornerback Adam 'Pacman' Jones can return to the NFL with the Dallas Cowboys after being reinstated by league commissioner Roger Goodell.

Jones was suspended by the NFL last month for at least four games for his latest off-field incident, involving an altercation with his bodyguard at a Dallas hotel.

The 25-year-old had only returned for seven games after missing the entire 2007 season for his off-field behaviour, which included being involved in a shooting in Las Vegas.

He was charged in June last year with two counts of felony coercion and in December he pleaded no contest in Las Vegas to conspiracy to commit disorderly conduct.

Overall, Jones has been arrested six times since joining the NFL in 2005, and after the latest hotel incident Goodell said that he would have to undergo treatment before returning to action.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones says that Jones has been cleared to return, but the cornerback is likely to miss two more games before playing against Pittsburgh on December 7.

"I think he has done what he has been asked to do," Jerry Jones said in the Star-Telegram.

"If anybody understands the kinds of things you deal with to get better, it's probably going to be an ongoing thing.

"I do know that he has a good sense of where he is and how he got there."

Jones has not played since the 30-24 loss at Arizona on October 12.
