James: Spurs link
Harry Redknapp has rejected talk that has suggested he will return to Portsmouth for goalkeeper David James.
The Tottenham boss is known to be keen to improve his squad in the January transfer window and has been linked with a number of his former Fratton Park charges.
Spurs are currently engaged in discussions with Portsmouth over the possible return of Jermain Defoe to White Hart Lane but Redknapp will not raid his former club for James.
Redknapp has made no secret of his belief that James is the best goalkeeper in the country but a move to the capital for the England man appears unlikely.
"I've never been linked to David James," Redknapp told Sky Sports News.
"Because he plays for Portsmouth and I signed him everybody is linking me. I've not made any (offer).
"(Portsmouth chief executive) Peter Storrie is a very good friend of mine, if I was interested in David I'd ring him up. I've never mentioned David James.
"The only contact we've had with Portsmouth is over Jermain Defoe. We asked if they were willing to sell him and they are, but at the right price.
"It had nothing to do with anyone else."
