Johnson: Close to signing extension
Portsmouth boss Tony Adams is confident Glen Johnson will sign a new contract with the club.
The Pompey chief has faced a difficult few weeks, with Lassana Diarra offloaded to Real Madrid and Jermain Defoe set for a return to Tottenham.
Adams has also been forced to fend off speculation linking a host of his other top stars with moves to pastures new during the January transfer window.
England international Johnson was just one those rumoured to be on his way, with Liverpool and Spurs ready to pounce, but the full-back now looks set to shun the interest from elsewhere and extend his stay at Fratton Park.
"The deal is 90 per cent completed," said Adams.
It is believed that the new contract would keep Johnson on the South Coast until at least 2013.
Should the paperwork be signed, Adams admits he can then turn his attention towards bringing in fresh faces.
"I'm trying hard to improve the club and have a recruitment team trying their hardest," he added.
