Zhirkov: Chelsea move
Chelsea have reached an agreement with CSKA Moscow to sign Russian wing-back Yuri Zhirkov.
The left-sided player, who shot to prominence with his performances at Euro 2008, has long been linked with a move to one of Europe's top clubs.
Barcelona were understood to be interested earlier in the summer before Chelsea emerged as the front-runners for his signature.
He flew in to London over the weekend, later stating that it would be 'inexcusable' for him to let such an opportunity pass.
New manager Carlo Ancelotti has now confirmed the switch will go ahead, with the 25-year-old set to become Chelsea's third signing of the window.
Speaking at his first press conference, Ancelotti said: "Zhirkov, Sturridge - these are Chelsea players.
"Zhirkov is naturally on the left. I think he can do all the work and can play in defence and in between."
Chelsea later clarified that the deal had not quite been finalised, with Zhirkov still needing to pass his medical and agree personal terms.
Daniel Sturridge joined the Blues from Manchester City last week, while young goalkeeper Ross Turnbull also arrived from Middlesbrough.
