Somerset's Peter Trego hopes to light up Twenty20 finals day with his explosive batting.

The Cidermen take on Kent in the second semi-final at Edgbaston on Saturday aiming to repeat their 2005 triumph in the competition.

All-rounder Trego is a crucial member of his county's power-packed batting order and boasts a T20 strike rate of 150.7 this season.

Even more astounding was Trego's 54-ball century that carried Somerset to a target of 476 over Yorkshire in July, the second-highest run-chase in the history of the County Championship.

"I can't say I step onto the field thinking I can do that every time, otherwise I'd be playing in the Ashes," he said.

"But I never feel an innings like that is far away. Hitting the ball hard is very natural for me.

"It's the rest of the game I have to work hard on - picking the right time to play those shots."

Motivation

Trego has become an integral part of Somerset's line-up in all formats after returning to his West Country roots following unsuccessful spells at Kent and Middlesex.

But the 28-year-old denies playing against his former employers provides him with any extra motivation.

"It doesn't bother me," he added. "Loads of people move around counties - if you hold grudges your whole career you'll be a pretty sad man at the end of it.

"But since leaving Kent, I've always played well against them.

"They're a formidable outfit, with (Joe) Denly and (Rob) Key opening up. If you had to put money on who would win the trophy, you would put it on the winner of our semi."
