Shenton: Welcome additon to the squad
Castleford's Michael Shenton has been called into England's train-on squad for the end-of-season internationals.
The 23-year-old centre, who won his second cap in England's 66-12 win over France in Paris in June, is the only player to be called up from the two clubs eliminated from the engage Super League play-offs at the weekend.
His Castleford team-mate Joe Westerman, who was 18th man in Paris, has failed to impress coach Tony Smith enough after a comparatively disappointing domestic season and there are no representatives from Wakefield.
Centre Ryan Atkins, who is moving from the Wildcats to Warrington next season, has ruled himself out because of a wrist injury, while Danny Brough has been omitted despite switching his allegiance from Scotland.
It is only Shenton, therefore, who will join the now 14-strong squad for training on Monday in preparation for the international against Wales on October 17 and the Four Nations series, which follows.
Further players will be added throughout the play-offs before Smith names his final 24-man squad on Monday, October 12, two days after the Grand Final at Old Trafford.
