Peter Crouch is hoping his two-goal haul against Belarus has put him at the forefront of manager Fabio Capello's thoughts ahead of the World Cup.

England bounced back from their defeat in Ukraine at the weekend with a 3-0 win over Belarus to end their qualifying campaign with a record of nine wins and one loss.

Tottenham striker Crouch benefitted from injuries to Wayne Rooney and Jermain Defoe to start England's final qualifier at Wembley on Wednesday.

The 28-year-old now has 16 goals in 17 starts for his country, but still admits that he would like to play more under Capello.

"It was very enjoyable," he said. "It is good to finish the qualifying campaign on a winning note at Wembley and take that into the World Cup.

Food for thought

"For me personally I was pleased to get a couple of goals.

"Have I given the manager a bit of food for thought? Yes. All I can do when given an opportunity is to try to take it and the goals help and hopefully my performance has given him something to think about.

"People keep asking me that question and I seem to always be saying that. I am pleased with the way it went.

"But we have got some fantastic competition for places, certainly in the striking area, and all I can do is to score goals and hopefully get a chance.

"We've got guys out injured at the moment and it would be nice to play a couple more games but it is back to the club now and I shall be concentrating on things at Tottenham.

"We've had a fantastic record in the qualifying group and hopefully we can take that through to the World Cup now."

With his record, Crouchy should have one foot on the plane. What more can he do to be a regular apart from scoring goals? The man needs a reward for his patience as he always seems to get overlooked, (not easy at 7 foot tall) even when he delivers. Yet he always takes it in his stride. Maybe that's his mistake, he should shout and swear like Rooney. What more has he done to warrant being a fixture in the team? Apart from playing for Man U?

Neil D (Liverpool fan) says...

Hopefully Crouch will get into the squad, he's a fantastic player in the air and at holding up the ball, plus he's great technically especially for a man of his size. I was disappointed to see him leave Liverpool as i always thought he should play with Torres..... England/Spurs, you've got yourselves a gem
