Victoria Pendleton was at her dominant best again on Wednesday night as she claimed her second victory in two days at the British National Track Championships in Manchester.
The Olympic champion underlined her status at the nation's undisputed sprint queen as she saw off her younger rivals to add the sprint crown to the 500metres time-trial victory she claimed on the opening day in Manchester.
Riding for Team Sky+HD, Pendleton convincingly overcame Jessica Varnish (Halesowen) 2-0 in the best-of-three final, providing the 29-year-old from Bedfordshire with the perfect preparation for next week's Track World Cup.
Becky James (Abergavenny) claimed a 2-0 success over Helen Scott (Halesowen) to secure bronze.
After her success, a delighted Pendleton stated: "I'm really pleased with my form.
"It's probably the fastest I've been going at this time of year, I've never gone into a World Cup with this much speed.
"It's very reassuring that my training has paid off - it bodes well for next week.
"I'm still fairly fatigued from training, so given a couple more days' rest I should find another tenth of a second or so. Fingers crossed."
Pendleton will be back in action on Saturday when she competes in the keirin, her final event before the Track World Cup which gets underway on October 30.
Elsewhere, defending champion Chris Newton won the men's 20-kilometre scratch race, with Alex Dowsett (100% ME) second and Mark Christian (100% ME) third.
Newton (Rapha Condor), the Olympic bronze medallist in the points race, saw his aggressive strategy ultimately pay dividends, his repeated attacks stretching the field before he won out on the final lap push.
