Masters champion Angel Cabrera will miss the season-ending Dubai World Championship after pulling out of the HSBC Champions tournament in Shanghai.
The 40-year-old Argentinean will not have played the required minimum 12 events for inclusion in the Dubai field, although had he not been disqualified from the Castello Masters this month he would have been eligible.
Cabrera was delayed en route from the Grand Slam in Bermuda the previous day and was late for his tee-off time by less than 15 minutes.
England's European Open champion Kenneth Ferrie, currently 116th on the Order of Merit and in danger of losing his Tour card, could benefit greatly from Cabrera's decision.
When Cabrera's name is removed from the list Ferrie will move up one place, with the top 115 earning exemptions for next season's circuit.
"Now I have two weeks in South Africa, then back to Argentina and restart in January in Hawaii," said Cabrera following his defeat to Australian Robert Allenby in the third-place play-off at the Volvo World Match Play in Spain.
Ferrie could have cemented his immediate future in the Singapore Open but finished 57th, meaning he stays at 116th in the 'Race to Dubai' standings.
Cabrera is the 11th player to turn down a place in China, which is included in the World Golf Championships series for the first time.
Also absent are Fiji's Vijay Singh, South African Tim Clark and Americans Steve Stricker, Jim Furyk, Lucas Glover, Kenny Perry, Zach Johnson, Dustin Johnson, Scott Verplank and Heath Slocum.
However, Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson and five more of the world's top 10 will feature in the event.
