McCarthy: Not in Allardyce's plans

In my opinion, I'm better than what I see out on the pitch in training but unfortunately I have a coach that prefers a different style of football and I'm not the player that fits his description

Benni McCarthy has confirmed he is hoping to win a move away from Blackburn in the January transfer window.

The player's agent revealed last week that McCarthy was unhappy with his lack of action at Ewood Park and was considering his future at the club.

The 31-year-old is well down the pecking order in Sam Allardyce's plans and McCarthy admits he will have to move as he does not suit Allardyce's style of play.

"In my opinion, I'm better than what I see out on the pitch in training but unfortunately I have a coach that prefers a different style of football and I'm not the player that fits his description," said McCarthy.

"That's the only reason I'm not playing - if I had a coach who preferred a player who can hold the ball up and score goals then I would be first choice but unfortunately he wants something different. I can't really be mad or angry about it but it just proves I need to move on."

Interest

Portsmouth have been linked with a move for McCarthy and the former Porto man admits he has discussed the prospect of moving to Fratton Park with South Africa team-mate Aaron Mokoena.

McCarthy has hinted he would be interested in a switch to Portsmouth, but also claimed a number of other clubs in England and Europe are chasing his signature.

"Portsmouth are going through a bad patch but are still a top side. I have discussed them with Aaron," added McCarthy.

"There are other clubs in England and Europe that have shown interest in me, too."
