Gayle: Rushed home
Chris Gayle is doubtful for the first Test against Australia starting on Thursday week after rushing home to be with his sick mother.
The West Indies captain returned to Jamaica on Tuesday night and it is currently unknown how long he will be away.
Team manager Joel Garner said: "The management and players in the team as well as the WICB are with Chris and his family at this time.
"We also want to wish his mother a speedy recovery."
Gayle was a late withdrawal from the four-day warm-up match against Queensland on Wednesday, with vice-captain Dinesh Ramdin taking over in charge.
The 15-man squad is already shorn of experience with Travis Dowlin and Adrian Barath stepping in at the top of the order in Gayle's absence.
