Hughes: Not interested
Hibernian boss John Hughes has performed an about turn and stated he is not interested in succeeding George Burley as Scotland manager.
On Thursday, the former Falkirk boss seemingly threw his hat in the ring after backing a proposal to join Jim Jefferies in the Scotland set-up.
Hughes reportedly stated 'I'd be there in a shot' regarding the Scotland post, but now insists his future remains at Easter Road.
The 45-year-old is delighted to have finally landed the Hibs job and insists any Scotland interest remains a long way down his career path.
"I am not interested in the Scotland post," he told the Daily Record.
"It has taken me long enough to get the Hibs job and I worked ever so hard to get here and want to be here for a right good number of years. I have the best coaching job in Scotland, I am telling you.
"Eventually, maybe 10 years down the line, I would reconsider it because it would be a great honour to boss your country but it is not for me at this moment."
Hughes insists the Scotland position is not an impossible job and that Graeme Souness or Kenny Dalglish would be his first choice options.
"The Scotland job is a fantastic position for a coach," he continued. "It is certainly not a poisoned chalice.
"Do we go down the foreigner route again? I don't know but if you are asking me for names the usual suspects are on our doorstep. My own choice would be Souness or Dalglish.
"All the candidates who have been linked with the post have their merits.
"No matter what the SFA door who they appoint they must have Scotland players in the squad who will look themselves in the eye and admit they are not the best then focus on doing what we are good at."
