Beckham: Wants fourth World Cup
England midfielder David Beckham accepts that his six-month loan return to AC Milan will not ensure a certain ticket to his fourth World Cup finals.
The LA Galaxy star will move to the San Siro in January to play out the remainder of the Serie A season in a repeat of his temporary spell in Italy during the last campaign.
Joining Milan is designed to keep Beckham in the mind of England boss Fabio Capello, who is plotting his squad for the World Cup in South Africa.
The 34-year-old has been told he must be playing on a regular basis to stay in the Three Lions frame, but he recognises that even that will not mean another tournament will follow his first appearance on the world stage in 1998.
He told Sky Sports News: "Nothing has been said to me about the World Cup squad because I think there is still a lot of time left before that.
"But me going to Milan doesn't guarantee me being in a World Cup squad.
"It gives me a chance of playing well and being noticed by the manager, but it doesn't guarantee anything."
Regarding the move to Milan, he said: "I would be lying if I said that I wasn't looking forward to it.
"I am spending six months away from my children and my wife, but it is something that I am focused on doing and something that I am looking forward to doing, being at a club like that.
"But it doesn't guarantee me anything."
Asked if he thought he merited a place in Capello's plans, he said: "You only deserve to be somewhere if you are doing well. I always work hard and hopefully I will do well.
"But, like I said, nothing is guaranteed in life and especially in football. Hopefully I will be in a position to get a chance, but nothing is guaranteed."
