Muttiah Muralitharan will miss the remainder of Sri Lanka's one-day series against India because of a finger injury.

The 37-year-old sat out the high-scoring opening match in Rajkot after picking up the injury during the Test series.

"We have decided to rest Murali from the one-day series to allow him to recover fully and be available for future tournaments," team manager Brendon Kuruppu said.

"Murali injured his ring and middle fingers in his right hand during the Mumbai Test earlier this month and is going back home."

Murali, whose 792 Test and 512 ODI wickets are world records, will be covered by spinners Muthumudalige Pushpakumara and Suraj Randiv who are already amongst the tour party.

The five-match series continues in Nagpur on Friday with India holding a 1-0 lead.
