Tim Cahill believes Liverpool could be feeling threatened by Everton after next weekend's Merseyside derby.

The Toffees' victory at Wigan on Saturday stretched an unbeaten run to nine games and continued their ascent of the Premier League.

Ninth-placed Everton endured a torrid start to the season but are now only nine points behind Liverpool, who sit fifth, with a game in hand.

Cahill therefore thinks Rafa Benitez's side could become increasingly nervous in their fight for European football with the likes of Manchester City, Tottenham and Aston Villa if Everton leave Anfield with three points.

The Australian said in the Daily Mirror: "We're excited about what lies ahead. It feels all the more special because we went through hard times earlier in the season and now we are getting what we deserve.

"We've worked hard to turn it around and we've still got a lot of players coming back from injury who are going to find it hard to get in the team.

"The derby is one of our big games of the season and we're looking forward to it. It's a game we always relish and so do our fans.

"We'll go there and give everything and hopefully the result goes our way. We just need to worry about ourselves and try and keep on improving.

"But if we get a result against them they might well be looking over their shoulders at us."
