New Zealand international Thomas Leuluai has been named in Wigan's new five-man leadership team.

The 24-year-old scrum-half is the youngest player to be included in the group, the members of which will take turns in leading the Warriors in 2010.

New coach Michael Maguire opted to break with tradition by axing the conventional captain role, although former skipper Sean O'Loughlin, who has led the side for the last four years, has also been named for the team.

Prop Andy Coley, second rower Phil Bailey and centre George Carmont complete the panel, who will share responsibility for leading the Warriors.

Maguire formed the leadership team to avoid "overstretching any one individual", and will decide on a weekly basis which player will take the helm of the team on matchday.

"We're confident this group will do a very good job leading us forward," said Maguire.

Loose forward O'Loughlin, who succeeded brother-in-law Andy Farrell as captain, is favourite to lead the team in Friday's opening DW Stadium clash against Crusaders.

Bailey is sidelined for the match after undergoing Achilles tendon surgery.
