Etherington has yet to pen a new deal
In-form Stoke winger Matthew Etherington has reiterated his commitment to the club, despite talks over a contract extension stalling.
The 28-year-old has admitted to a gambling addiction in the past, but has bounced back admirably and has been touted as a possible surprise inclusion for Fabio Capello's England World Cup squad
The former West Ham midfielder has been in inspirational form for the Potters in recent weeks - highlighted by a man of the match display in the 3-0 victory against Blackburn, but has revealed that discussions over a new deal are not progressing well.
He told the Stoke Sentinel: "I don't want to go too much into it [new contract] because it's a bit of a sticky situation.
"But I'm happy with my form and happy at the football club."
Etherington was keen to show his appreciation to Tony Pulis for the support the Potters boss has offered him and believes that it has helped him on the pitch.
He added: "The manager has been brilliant with me and I'm very happy in my personal life.
"There's been stuff written in the press about gambling, but that's behind me now.
"It was a part of my life that took my focus off football, but I've put that behind me now.
"I will keep on top of it and make sure I won't bet again."
Etherington has helped Stoke remain unbeaten in 2010 so far, but realises that earning an England call-up will be a tough task.
"My form now has got to be up there with the best of my career," he added. "In my first season at West Ham, albeit in the Championship, I played quite well and was Hammer of the year.
"I'm not going to get my hopes up and get above myself. If I keep doing well for Stoke City, you never know, but it's a long shot.
"There's four or five great players in my position like Joe Cole and Steven Gerrard - and they're all top, top players."
