England have climbed above Argentina into eighth place in the latest Fifa world rankings.

Fabio Capello's men have not played since losing 1-0 to Brazil in Qatar in November, while Argentina beat Jamaica 2-1 last month.

However, the complicated way points are calculated means that England have now risen one spot ahead of their friendly against Egypt on Wednesday night.

The only other movement in the top ten sees Germany switch places with Portugal to move up to fifth, while Greece are up to tenth.

Spain remain in first place ahead of Brazil, Holland and Italy, with France now just above England in seventh.

Republic of Ireland have dropped two places to 39th with Northern Ireland up one place in 40th.

Scotland also move up one place to 45th but Wales remain just behind Uganda and Uzbekistan in 76th.
