McCarthy: Playing down tackle
Wigan ace James McCarthy has played down the furore surrounding Liam Ridgewell's dangerous tackle on him last week
McCarthy was forced off after Ridgewell's sliding tackle during Birmingham's 1-0 win at St Andrews last Saturday.
Latics boss Roberto Martinez was left fuming by the tackle describing it as a 'leg-breaking challenge'.
Ridgewell escaped any censure from the Football Association over the tackle after referee Anthony Taylor decided it did not merit any action.
McCarthy, who made his Republic of Ireland debut in midweek against Brazil, was refusing to get involved in a war of words with Ridgewell over the challenge.
"It was a bit of a lunge, but to be honest these things happen," McCarthy told skysports.com.
"Somebody texted me about it last week, but these things happen and you just need to get on with it.
"He caught my ankle, but I am not going to get involved in a war with him."
